Student Testimonials
The Diploma Programme will be an asset towards one’s writing skills and time management. It truly is a sneak peek into the college lifestyle.
Kit Tran, Class of 2019, East Carolina University
I feel that I am going into college with an advantage and that I will be very prepared.
Hope Pruitt, Class of 2019, NC State University
Mr. Baron wasn’t lying when he said participating in the Diploma Programme was going to be very demanding and contain a strenuous workload. Knowing the demands and what this program expected out of me from what my friends had said, I was willing to accept the challenge. I had never really been challenged at school and I was excited to see how putting me against this rigorous course load would impact me as a student, and as an overall human with trying to find a work life balance. I definitely faced many, many, many challenges while participating in the program, but I would not want to change anything about my experience. The diploma programme has allowed me to understand the world in a way I have never before, but more importantly understand who I am, especially as the program challenged my perspective and allowed me to develop new skills, beliefs, and perspectives that have allowed me to be the person I am today. The obstacles that this program has showed me only proved that I have enough perseverance and strength to overcome them, while maintaining other aspects of my life. I will always cherish my experience being an IB Diploma Candidate as it allowed me to become a better student, individual, and friend. (P.S. I’ve made some of the bestest friends I have ever had because of IB and I wouldn’t trade that for anything else)
Madelyn Ignacio, Class of 2019, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
The IB program is a totally different way of learning that fosters engagement and relationships with your peers/ teachers. It has broadened my world view and made me a much more well rounded student and person.
Waverly Noble, Class of 2019, University of Georgia
Starting IB, the workload seems unmanageable and overwhelming but I promise you that each and every single IB teacher will do everything in their power to ensure your success. The extent to which the Diploma Programme changed me not only in regards to work ethics but as a whole is crazy and I never expected that. The Diploma Programme and I had a love-hate relationship and I'm beyond grateful for the lessons I learned, the people I met and the obstacles I overcame with and in this Programme:)
Teresa Grille, Class of 2019, University of North Carolina, Charlotte
What the Diploma programme is at its core is the idea of learning from our mistakes. Students learn how to make mistakes but not necessarily giving up (teachers help if help is asked). The program in general makes you a stronger person because it makes you not only become a better student but a strong individual and makes you value the small things (helping others, CAS).
Emily Govea, Class of 2019, Wake Technical College
The IB Diploma Programme was the best decision of my high school career. Not only was I able to connect with students and develop really close relationships with many, but I was constantly surrounded by others who valued school at a similar place to me. I highly recommend the Diploma Programme, if you are willing to go the extra mile, it will definitely pay off, I know that it did for me.
Cole Powell, Class of 2019, Elon University
Not nearly as difficult as some portray it to be.
Connor LaRocca, Class of 2019, NC State University
It is a challenge, but growth can only come from stepping outside tour comfort zone.
Brooke Finnessy, Class of 2019, United States Military Academy
It helps you get into college for sure because schools see your dedication to the most difficult possible classes; some schools have IB specific scholarships just for doing IB and getting the diploma
Blake Ryan, Class of 2019, University of Tampa
It's going to be hard. That's a fact. But being able to grow and struggle together with my fellow classmates was probably the most gratifying experience I had in the program.
Sabian Martinez, , Class of 2019, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
The program requires you to apply knowledge to real world situations. Additionally it allows for you to hone in on specific classes and focuses a lot on writing. This program allowed for my writing to progress and strengthen. Overall it was great experience and definitely recommend.
Sarah Rhim, Class of 2019, Appalachian State University
I love IB. It has meant so much to me, in giving me a community of like-minded peers and some of my very best friends, teaching me how to be a better student, preparing me for life beyond Millbrook, making me a better and self-aware human, evoking and cultivating my passions, and giving me memories I will cherish forever. I have met so many incredible, dedicated, and inspiring people in this program - people who make me a better person every day and who I know will one day do big things. Furthermore, IB has given me the opportunity to have the best of the best of teachers who strive to make learning fun and interesting, and actually care about their students.
I remember coming home from my first week of school junior year and telling my mom how much I loved my IB classes, because they are just so different than other classes. They are topical and deep and structured not only to teach us, but to make us better humans who can actually contribute to society. Two days from graduation, I still come home every day and tell my mom about how much I love my classes, because no matter how hard it gets or how much work I have, the amazing teachers and intriguing coursework never fail to make it fun.
One of the most meaningful parts about IB for me: it encouraged me to take risks and follow my passions. I feel very strongly about women's rights, hence why I absolutely loved IB English, in which every single book from junior and senior year I read I was able to write a feminist paper on. Within the program, I was taught it's not enough to simply think something, you must do something about it. It was this mindset that led me to some of the most important experiences of my life. From volunteering in a women's empowerment program in India by myself over the summer to getting up at 3 am to take a bus to Washington by myself for the women's march, I learned to take initiative and pursue my passions.
As for the memories I will cherish forever, these include all the fun projects we did throughout the program, spending my Saturdays doing Habitat for Humanity with friends for CAS, and even all the late nights studying and doing homework.
Finally I would just like to address some things I heard about the program prior to joining. When I was a sophomore, I heard all the horror stories about IB. How people never slept. How people had mental breakdowns every night. How people had no friends and no social lives. How people had no time for anything else. This was not the case for me at all. Indeed, there were days, maybe weeks, that were stressful. However, despite these stressful periods, I was able to play soccer, volunteer extensively, have a social life, and thoroughly enjoy my high school experience. In essence, I'm thankful for IB and all that it has given me: for my wonderful friends, my amazing teachers, my memories, for making me love school again, and for growing me into the person I am today.
Megan Proudfoot, , Class of 2019, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
You will have so much fun in the program and like the program as long as you time manage and surround yourself with positivity and be optimistic
Marina Botros, Class of 2019, NC State University
It was some of the hardest work that I have done in my academic career, however it was also some of the most rewarding work I’ve ever done. I learned so much from this program not only in school but also in life lessons that I will continue to carry with me. I also made more friendships and felt more at home in school in the IB program than I ever have in the entirety of my schooling. This program is hard but so incredibly worth it.
Elizabeth Haigler, Wake Technical College
The program makes you a much better writer and promotes critical thinking. It also forces you to become aware of global issues and analyze the deeper meaning of works you read.
Joseph Adams, , Class of 2019, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Time management and the ability boost in writing ability are my key building blocks of what I got out of the IB
John Pryor, Class of 2019, Liberty University
It opens one's eyes to the true value of education
Andrew Lopez, Class of 2019, NC State University
IB has improved my high school experience in terms of education and social experience. I am almost certain I would have enjoyed high school much less had I not taken IB, despite all the extra work.
Vincent Davies, Class of 2019, Georgia Tech University
When Mr. Baron says IB is a marathon, not a sprint, he means it. Anyone is fully capable of doing this program, as is it not strictly a matter of intellect. It is one’s capability and willpower to complete numerous assignments while juggling outside activities, which anyone can do if they put in effort. I was unsure at first of whether to pursue this program, but I decided to take the plunge and do it because of all the supposed benefits Mr. Baron claimed it would have. I can honestly say that IB has not only helped me get into college and get some scholarships, but also has prepared me in a way that I will not fully appreciate until I am there. Yet, as with all things, IB is what you make of it and does not guarantee opportunities. However, it provides a great foundation for success and I would highly recommend it to someone who is motivated to work hard to achieve their dreams.
Kaitlyn Becker, Class of 2018, Campbell University
I would say that although at times the work load can seem impossible, you will always get through it and that by the end of it you'll feel like you really achieved something meaningful.

Jalyn Chapman, Class of 2018, North Carolina A&T University
Get involved and make connections with your teachers, they are your mentors and want to see you succeed. But you must take the initiative!
Harris Green, Class of 2018, University of Georgia
It will help prepare you so much for college, I feel prepared to take on the rigorous college classes I know I will have in the following years. Even if I do not receive my IB Diploma (Hopefully I will though!) it's the experiences and skills I've acquired over the past 2 years that have helped me feel confident and prepared for college.
Sydney Stine, Class of 2018, NC State University
I believe the Diploma Programme challenges our perception and perspective of the world. It encourages you to become a more informed and more learned human being, not just student. I challenge other students to allow it to do that as the program is built for you to take hold of it and will not produce the same results if you do not let it. Do yourself a favor, get out of your comfort zone and through the hard work that is demanded of you , the programme will not only make you a better student but a better person as you better get to know yourself and build relationships with those around you.
Graham Watkins, Class of 2018, Morehead-Cain Scholarship recipient,
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Your reading comprehension, writing, and study skills will improve dramatically! The Diploma program will have you beyond prepared for your future both in the workplace and in college. It is definitely one of the best decisions I have made in my high school career. Now I am going into college with the confidence that I am prepared academically and that leaves me feeling much more at ease moving into such a new environment.
Farah Naser, Class of 2018, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Being a part of the DP Programme granted me the opportunity to become a better public speaker, interact with others and learn to think outside of the box. If I could redo high school, I would not change anything because IB helped better me as a critical thinker and as a person in general.

The Diploma Programme has given me more than I could have asked for in a 2 year - high school program. Although it did have its challenging times, we all grew not only as students but as independent thinkers who are better equipped to take on the world ahead of us. If I could, I would definitely choose to do the IB program again because all the pros outweigh any cons. I do not have a single regret. I'm so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful senior class of students who I've grown closer to over the years. I appreciate everything the program has given me, and even if you think you might be better off without it, trust me, you aren't.
Alexandra Butler, Class of 2018, Goodnight Scholarship recipient, NC State University
It consists of the BEST teachers at Millbrook, that really take their time to help you with anything that you may need.
Brianna Pendergraft, Class of 2018, University of South Carolina
The IB Diploma Programme is difficult, but without a challenge you won't know what you're truly capable of. This programme preps you for the intellectual demands of rigorous college study with improved academic self-confidence.
Rebecca Irene, Class of 2018, Campbell University
IB has encouraged me to develop a global mindset and challenged me to think outside of my comfort zone. Beyond that, I am now able to more effectively convey my thoughts and ideas in a concise, yet developed fashion.
Anna Conger, Class of 2018, College of William and Mary
If you care about your education, this is the best way to compliment it!
Timmy McWilliams, Class of 2017, University of North Carolina, Greensboro
The IB Diploma Programme may seem daunting, but it is so worth it! You will make great friends and learn many life skills, like time management. I feel so academically prepared for college because of IB!
Sophie Eubanks, Class of 2017, Meredith College
Yes, the program is challenging, but if you learn by LEARNING and not by memorization, like in AP courses, then IB is for you. It takes lots of extra work too, but that got me started on beekeeping and volunteering in a hospital. The EE helped me understand a lot about something I was interested in, and the IAs will help me out when I have to do research papers for college. Everyone says college will be a breeze... I'll know how to wrote papers, manage my time, and how to balance CAS activities :P
Liz Finnessy, Class of 2017, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Grind it out. Trust me, it's worth it.
Ian Pearlswig, Class of 2017, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
The IB Programme is a great community with great teachers that really care about their students. I feel like I've learned so many valuable skills and I feel fully prepared for college.
Jessica Whipple, Class of 2017, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
The teacher support is excellent. Teachers care about the students as people first, then as students.
Carson Howard, Class of 2017, NC State University
The Diploma Programme was challenging and offered me a great balance. I believe it made the difference in my high school career. This is a result of the programs community that offered me my best friends, and a challenging course load that prepared me for university. I got exactly where I wanted to end up and I think a lot of the success was due to the program.
David Flower, Class of 2017, Parks Scholarship recipient, NC State University
It encourages you to work hard and take academics seriously. Forces you to value your education and increases your will to be successful in school.
Connor Finnegan, Class of 2017, Appalachian State University
My classes at Duke, though much more challenging than my IB classes, resemble that of the IB courses more than the AP classes I took. There are several in-class discussions and conversations on material, and the work I am assigned is similar to the work I was assigned in my IB courses.
Miles Ndukwe, Class of 2014, Duke University
The Diploma Programme at Millbrook High School represents an opportunity to make the most of a high school education. The two year curriculum hinges on critical thinking, effective communication, and in-depth learning. Its global focus instills mental adaptability and awareness in its students. As a collegiate student studying engineering with a pre-medicine concentration, I feel that the Diploma Programme has prepared me quite well for present and future challenges.
From CAS, to the Extended Essay, to the classes in general, the possibilities that come with the IB Programme are limitless. IB is more than just a set of courses to take. It's an opportunity to try something new or master something you've been exposed to before. So long as you seize these opportunities, the rewards that come in time will be well worth it.
Drew Navarro, Class of 2014, EC Scholars recipient, East Carolina University
The Diploma Programme pushed me out of my comfort zone, but there are so many people who offer you support as you face those challenges. Your weaknesses glare at you, and it is up to you to decide how you will cope. But then you realize that everyone around you is not invincible and are able to learn with them.
Molly Spero, IB DP Class of 2014, Elon University
I am so glad that I took a risk and choose the IB Diploma Programme! I was terrified of what I was getting myself into, but it has totally paid off! I absolutely love the classes, including IB Film and Theory of Knowledge. By the end of the first quarter, I felt like a college student!
Gabby Romero, IB DP Class of 2014, Boston University
The IB program was pivotal to my success thus far at Georgia Tech. Through the rigorous course load and focus on a balanced life, IB has prepared me for more advanced courses as well as tackling challenges outside of the class room.
Timothy Peterson, Class of 2013, Georgia Tech University
Not only did the IB Diploma Programme help me with my academic skills, it also encouraged me to branch out and try new things. I am a much better public speaker, and working with others is no longer a battle. I learned how to play to people's strengths and make the best of every situation I'm put into. The IB Diploma Programme was by no means easy. It was quite the challenge. But because I was further challenged at a younger age than my non-IB counterparts, I have been ready for every experience college has brought to me.
Hannah Cox, Class of 2013, North Carolina State University
IB really helped me learn to write solid academic papers and give well thought out presentations. The experience of seeing issues through multiple view points is an advantage that IB gave me which helps me give more well rounded answers than other students.
Andrew McMains, Class of 2013, University of North Carolina
I feel that IB really prepared me for the challenges of a college workload. I know that I can handle anything that comes my way.
Wesley Hitson, Class of 2013, University of North Carolina
The most valuable part of the Diploma Programme was the teacher-student interaction and the depth of the program.
IB Diploma Class of 2013 (Anonymous Survey Respondent)
The most valued aspect of IB is that it is a world wide program. Knowing that you are just one of many in the whole wide world makes you feel like you are part of something bigger. Students like myself are living the same lives all around the world, and that's really cool to think about.
IB Diploma Class of 2013 (Anonymous Survey Respondent)
The most valuable part of the programme was learning how to learn by asking the right questions.
IB Diploma Class of 2013 (Anonymous Survey Respondent)
Being in the IB has allowed me to see where I struggle and also where I succeed. I also know college is a rigorous experience and with the workload and rigor of the Diploma Programme it has definitely prepared me for such a task.

The most valued aspect of IB is that it is a world wide program. Knowing that you are just one of many in the whole wide world makes you feel like you are part of something bigger. Students like myself are living the same lives all around the world, and that's really cool to think about.

The most valuable part of the programme was learning how to learn by asking the right questions.

Being in the IB has allowed me to see where I struggle and also where I succeed. I also know college is a rigorous experience and with the workload and rigor of the Diploma Programme it has definitely prepared me for such a task.
