The Diploma Programme is a 2-year college-prep program that focuses on a broad curriculum and an in-depth course of study. The IB diploma does not replace the North Carolina high school diploma, but strengthens it by serving as a demonstration of motivation and success in a world-recognized rigorous college-prep program.
To earn the diploma requires the study of six content courses and the completion of the core requirements of the diploma programme. Courses are either one or two years long, allowing for study at a level of depth that provides significant opportunity for the development of analytical and evaluative skills. |

All students will take Theory of Knowledge, a two-year course and a part of the Diploma Programme Core. Theory of Knowledge is unique to the IB Diploma Programme and serves the critical purpose of asking students to consider to what extent do we actually know what we claim to know and why does this knowledge matter? As a part of the Diploma Programme experience, our students will write an Extended Essay, a research paper on a topic of the student's choosing. Extended essays can be written in any academic subject a student is studying, from Physics to Film, Literature to Mathematics. The extended essay will serve as an opportunity for students to chart their own course as a learner, and as a key element of their college prep experience!
